I think that the guy putting out the torch shows he was not willing to do what he might of had to do. He looked like he was glad that he did not have to kill them himself. He was probably forced into joining but was not willing to kill any one, so he was probably glad he could put it out, and he probably stood there thinking about what he got into and if he could do it.

I agree. I think he didn't want to do what they did to them, take it too far. He could of just burned him and over do it but he didn't because he knows how much the others suffered while dying different ways
