Shot Length
Hitchcock uses different shot lengths depending on which emotion he wants us to perceive. With shorter shot lengths the emotion is most likely very apparent and doesn't take deep thought. I believe Hitchcock used longer shot lengths so you have more time to analyze the character and understand what they're feeling.
