In the beginning of the movie, when Floyra was trying to find gun. He was with that little boy who was talking in a creepy voice to the old man and when he was on the phone. I believe that the boy was trying to act more like a man. Notice how he makes his voice in a lower tone to make himself sound more mature. Also he said that he had already found his gun. One question I have is why didn't they take that boy to war?

I think about that myself. He doesn't appear to have one. He wanted to go with the soldiers at the beginning, but was not allowed; he would have been keenly aware that the gun is what gained Florya entry. Interestingly to me, that would make him a liar. This deceitfulness is leads to Florya's temptation and fall from innocence. Does anyone agree/disagree?
