I think it is saying that yes you loss innocence when you grow up, but that you never loss all of it. The example they used for that is that no person in their right mind would shoot a innocent baby.

I agree with Michael , When you are growing up you tend to become a lot more individual and you have you be able to make a lot more difficult decisions. It kind of meshes with Utilitarianism, by making a choice for the greater good even though it might not benefit anyone but yourself. For example, in class we discussedwe would let the people on the trolley die because the brakes are broken or would we push it to the side track And kill one guy by running him over to save more lives.. The choices given are tough mentally and emotionally but when growing up you are faced with tough tasks and the lose of innocence of choosing one scenario over the other.
