Average shot length
I believe Hitchcock wants us to feel different emotions from each shot length. I feel the longer the shot length, the more time we have to guess and figure out what is going on. In a way I feel Hitchcock is trying to make us to get to know each character in the windows by their daily activities. The more time we have with the shots of the characters, the more we feel involved in what is happening in their lives. The emotions of the characters become our emtions and the more details we have, the more we understand the points being crossed.
